Ideally, your provider will recruit employees who will have an
affinity for your individual work culture or industry. Additionally,
the company will have a thorough knowledge of work visas and visa
processing. The best way to achieve a good match is to interview
several companies before making a choice.
There is no industry standard in terms of the range of services
designated sponsors deliver through their international worker
programs. Therefore, the level of assistance the employer can expect
and the expertise of the individual company can vary widely from
sponsor to sponsor and company to company.
An experienced company should offer recruiting trips to other
countries. These are excellent opportunities for employers to meet
and choose workers directly. This initial contact
creates the foundation of a successful work experience for both
parties. A company should also offer support in
coordinating details of the workers’ arrival. Reliable
companies who are available to assist in making arrival arrangements
will save the employer valuable time.
You should be introduced to governmental agencies and organizations
as needed, such as various
J-1 sponsors, the U.S. State Department, international agents, and
other employers. It goes without saying that you
should feel confident that your provider is very experienced with
visa applications and visa processing.
To
evaluate a provider, you should:
▪ Ask for references from colleagues in your industry
▪ Ask for statistics, i.e., numbers of international
workers who have successfully completed
employment contracts within the previous two years
▪ Ask for start and end dates of workers per country, and the
estimated number of employees
recruited from each country
▪ Ask for number of visa denials per year and country; a
reliable company will provide you with their
percentage of visa denials
▪ Ask what kind of support services that you, the employer,
may expect
▪ Ask what kind of support services that your employees may
expect
▪ Clearly state your specific needs and expectations, and ask
if the company is capable of fulfilling
them
